Terry Eagleton's The Event of Literature probes into the essence of literature and reading strategies from the perspective of the philosophy of literature.He notes that all literary theories consider literature as 'event'.In deconstructing the fictional,valuable,richly figurative,non-pragmatic and morally significant qualities of literature,Eagleton inspires the reader to reconsider literature and literary texts.He proposes the reading strategy of 'structuration' to the effect that the author does not authorize the intention of the text,and that the reader's reconstructing of the 'event' is dynamic.The Event of Literature deepens the reader's understanding of the essence of literature and highlights the reader's agency in interpreting the 'event' of literature.
