莫言《生死疲劳》英译中隐义明示法的运用:翻译文体学视角

Explicitation in the English Translation of Life and Death Are Wearing Me out by Mo Yan—Viewed from Translational Stylistics

本文对莫言《生死疲劳》英译本中的隐义明示法展开研究。试从翻译文体学角度,对《生死疲劳》在中西方读者群中遭受内冷外热的情况做出回答。本文指出,明示是《生死疲劳》葛浩文英译本中一个明显的文体特征。在该英译本中,隐义明示法主要有四种体现:增添戏剧化色彩、增添话语、增加语气或强度、增加生动性。

This paper is a study of explicitation as a strategy in the English translation of Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out by Mo Yah. It is an attempt to provide an answer to why Mo＇ s novel meets contrastively different attitudes from the readership at home and abroad. The paper points out that explicitation is one of the prominent stylistic markers of the TT by Howard Goldblatt. It is found that there are mainly four features of the TT, namely, additional dramatic effects, added utterances, filled out tone or intensity, and increased vividness.
