管窥文化资本维度下的新移民融合问题——以加拿大华人为个案

On New Immigrants' Integration from the Perspective of Cultural Capital——In the Case of Canadian Chinese

新移民如何顺利融入主流社会始终是加拿大致力解决的问题。布迪厄尔的文化资本理论认为,人们在教育领域的投资与其在劳动力市场的地位息息相关。尤其在加拿大这样的移民国家,文化资本实质上成为衡量新移民社会地位的直接标志。加拿大华人新移民的遭遇却反映出一种文化资本维度下的排斥理论。该理论在华人新移民身上主要有三种表现方式:自我淘汰、过度筛选和贬值废黜。无论何种方式都对华人新移民同主流社会的融合造成障碍。

The smooth integration of new immigrants into the mainstream society is always a big concern for the Canadian government. The cultural capital theory by Bourdieu holds whether people invest in education has a great effect on their position in the labor market. As a matter of fact, cultural capital has become a direct symbol for measuring new immigrants＇ social status in Canada. However, what the Chinese newcomers have encountered in Canada is manifested by an exclusion theory from the perspective of cultural capital, including mainly three types -- self-elimination, over- screening and devalued deposition, any of which may hinder Chinese new immigrants＇ integration into the mainstream society of Canada.
