Nobel laureate Coetzee's novel Disgrace is loaded with rich meanings.Read from a postcolonial-ecocritical perspective, the novel manifests the worsening ecological environment in post apartheid South Africa. The eco-environmental problems are reflected through the conflicts between the White and the Black, the appropriation of the land by the White and the 'losening' of animals for the benefit of human beings. These problems are the consequences of South Africa's long history of colonization and racial apartheid. However, hope for the future can still be sensed from the novel. To some extent,Disgrace expresses a call for the construction of a harmonious ecological environment in SouthAfrica.
