60 Years of Byron Criticism in New China:ABrief Survey andAnalysis

在外在性研究、内在性研究和比较文学研究三种主要研究范式的交替主宰之下,新中国60年的拜伦研究历经了1949-1978的泛政治化、1978-1999的思想多元化和2000-2010的规范深入化三个主要阶段,呈现出一幅政治批判与学术探索、思想追问与形式分析相互交织、互相促进的图谱。其中既有信口开河、粗制滥造之作,但也产生了一批数量虽然不多、然而却严谨扎实、见解深刻、臻于国际前沿的优秀成果。此外,还有一个现象值得学界思考:总的来看,中国的拜伦研究者大致可分为中文系和英文系两派。中文系学者的治学方式多为"六经注我"式,而英文系学者则更多倾向于"我注六经"式。这两种方式本无所谓高低对错,但如果中国的拜伦学有一天能够真正全面走向世界,"六经注我"与"我注六经"两种治学方式的结合必然是关键。

Having been alternately dominated by three critical paradigms （the extrinsic, the intrinsic, and the comparative）, Byron criticism in new China, in a drastically simplified way, could be periodized into three phases, viz., 1949-1978, 1978-1999, and 2000-2010. Generally, it presents an intricate and intertwined academic landscape involving ideological debating, intellectual exploring, and formalistic inquiring, in which scholarly integrity and scissors-paste activities are both discemable. In addition, interestingly, scholars with Chinese departments seem to be more polemical than those doing English studies, who, tend to be more or less exegetical. It goes without saying that should Byronian scholarship in China be able to make its voice heard in the international arena of Byron studies, an approach fusing ＂polemical ＂ and ＂exegetical＂ is a must.
