纽曼的知识观

On Newman's Knowledge View

约翰·亨利·纽曼在他的著作《大学的理想》一书中对大学的知识作了独到而精辟的阐释,充分的展示了他的知识观。纽曼认为,大学中的知识是一种"普遍知识",具有普遍性、独立联系性及非功利性等特点,而且,学习大学中的知识既是一种必要又具有一种可能。基于此,笔者还就学生在大学里为何学习知识和怎样学习知识,提出了一些对我们当下的大学要传授何种知识的启示。

John Henry Newman has a good illustration to the university knowledge in his book The Idea Of A University, fully demonstrating his knowledge view. Newman argues ＂general knowledge＂ which is characterized by universality, that the Knowledge acqulreo in the university is a ＂general knowledge＂ which is characterized by universality, relative independence and utilitarianism and university knowledge is a necessity. The author gives in the paper, by reflection, some revelation on what knowledge should be acquired in universities.
