Through epitomizing the history process and combining with the elements of society, culture and religion, this article mainly discusses the genres of portrait painting, studies the technological improvement and historical development of portrait painting and the effect of human beings and spirit, and concludes and summarizes the essence of portrait painting, in order to briefly set forth the development process of European portrait painting and provide university art students with a suitable research and analysis of portrait painting to enhance their understanding of portrait painting.
