From Silence to Deep River——The Exploration of Endo Shusaku’s Pluralistic Religious Thought

远藤周作对于宗教的理解很复杂。虽然从小就接受了洗礼,并经常与家人一起参加教会活动,但在很长一段时间里,远藤周作本人并不十分确信主耶稣的存在。因此在他的早期小说《沉默》中,我们会看到主人公洛特里哥神甫对于主耶稣存在本身的质疑,以及对于主耶稣人格的怀疑:主耶稣明知犹大要出卖自己但却不加以制止,牺牲犹大借以成就自己荣耀的人生。而到了后期,远藤不再为主耶稣是否存在而感到困惑,他的宗教思想呈现出多元化的色彩,因此在他的后期小说《深河》中,远藤借小说主人公大津之口,非常清晰地表达了自己对于神的理解:"神拥有多种面孔。"从早期的《沉默》到后期的《深河》,我们可以清晰地看到远藤多元化宗教思想嬗变的轨迹。

Endo Shusaku＇ s understanding of religion is very complicated. Although he received baptism since childhood and often joined church activities with his family, Endo Shusaku himself was not very sure of the existence of Jesus for a long time. Therefore, in the novel Silence written in his early life, we＇ll see the hero Rodrigo＇s doubt about the existence of Jesus and his suspicion of the personality of Jesus, who already knew that Judah would betray him but did not stop it and sacrificed Judah to achieve his glorious life. And during his latter life, Endo Shusaku ceased to feel confused about whether Jesus exists or not any more, and his religious thought goes to pluralism. Especially in the novel Deep River, in the name of Ootu, Endo Shusaku expresses his understanding about God very clearly, that is, ＂God has diverse faces. ＂ From the early work Silence to the latter work Deep River, we can clearly perceive the trace of change in Endo Shusaku＇s pluralistic religious thought.
