George Herbert is a famous devotional poet in the seventeenth century England. The collection ot his poems named The Temple for short wins favor of numerous readers for its piety in theme, plainness in language and orderliness in form. George Herbert has been studied abroad ever since the seventeenth century, and each period of this research shows different features. The present essay attempts to clarify the principal research achievements in different periods, so that the researchers at home who are interested in George Herbert＇ s poems may get some help from reading it.
