对民族文化的哲学讨论既可以是唯名论的,也可以是实在论的:民族文化的精神实质是超验的实在,只有通过神秘的直觉才能体悟;但这种超验的文化精神又必须在具体的文化现象中经过感官被人们接受。民族文化的这一特性一方面决定民族认同是比阶级认同、团体认同更加根本的认同;另一方面,使得民族文化必须有经济繁荣、政治强大的国家作为外壳。

The philosophical discussion of national culture can be nominalism, or realism： the spiritu- al essence of national culture is a transcendental one and can only be realized through mysterious in- tuition; however this transcendental cultural spirit can only be accepted in specific cultural phenome- non through the senses of man. This characteristic of national culture decides that national identifica- tion is more basic than class identification or group identification on the one hand; on the other, na- tional culture must be protected by an economically prosperous and politically great state.
