Intercultural Communication calls for one to overcome the following four kinds of obstacles: language, lifestyle, religious beliefs and ideology, the most difficult among these being religious belief. Zhao gave an example of a lifestyle difference: a French friend didn’t understand why refraining from drinking means looking down on one’s host while getting drunk often means one should be taken as a good friend in China. The French friend might have been puzzled about Boris Yeltsin having enjoyed Chinese spirits and having gotten drunk when visiting Shanghai.
