On the characteristics of non governmental borrowings in Fujian in the Qing Dynasty through the study of contracts

清代福建民间借贷的特点:逐步从实物借贷为主转向以货币借贷为主;小额短期借贷占绝大多数;民间借贷主要是为了渡日、操办婚丧、宗族祭扫或缴纳租赋等,只有少数是为经营而融资。这既反映福建农村商品货币经济有所发展。

s:The characteristics of non governmental borrowinggs in Fujian in the Qing Dynasty are:the forms of borrowings were gradually changed from materials to currency;most borrowings were of short term and small amount; they were basically for the expenditure of daily life, wedding,funeral,memorial ceremony of clan and the payment for taxes;few borrowings were for raising funds for business operation.These characteristics show us that there were some development of commodity and monetary economy as well as pauperization in Fujians rural areas in the Qing Dynasty.
