At the time when the European debt crisis is worsening and the European integration process is undergoing severe trials and turbulences,European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso presented clearly in September 2012,a political blueprint in which the European Union will head for a 'federation of nation-states'.According to Barroso,Europe is in need of a 'new -thinking',and he tried to draw a forward-looking roadmap for the EU in the direction it will take in the future.Right now,Barroso's new political blueprint for the EU may only have some symbolic meanings, but it will possibly spark off once again a new round of debates about the future direction of the EU.The impact Barroso's political blueprint on the future trend of EU's reform cannot be ignored.By giving a brief analysis of the current internal and external situation facing the EU,this author will proceed to lay special stress on explaining the main ideas and intensions of Barroso' s new political blueprint and make a few comments on some possible constraints he might have to meet with.
