浅谈《觉醒》中的二元对立理论

On Theory of Binary Opposition in Awakening

美国小说家凯特.肖班的小说《觉醒》自1899年问世以来,评论家就对女主人公爱德娜的行为众说纷纭。借用结构主义的二元对立的理论,通过对《觉醒》进行深层结构分析,读者可以发现了文本中的两性的二元对立、艺术与道德的对立以及宽容与叛逆的对立。通过这三组二元对立项的分析可引出文本的深层结构和蕴意。

Since American novelist Kate Chopin's Awakening was published in 1899, many critics have expressed their divergent opinions toward the heroine Edna’s behaviors. Through deep structural analysis on Awakening, the binary opposition has been found between the male and the female, art and morality as well as tolerance and rebellion. Analysis on the three groups of the binary opposition can introduce the deep structure and the implication of the text.
