By the end of 2012, 463 rural passenger routes-in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will operate in bus mode and 2,767 rural ＂public buses＂ will facilitate the journeys for farmers and h, erdsmen. In 2012, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region undertook a comprehensive transformation of rural passenger routes. It is estimated that 463 rural passenger routes in the region will achieve bus mode operation by year end. When ＂public buses＂ run in rural areas, passengers can use smart IC cards and monthly tickets, and old people in agricultural and paStor.al areas can also travel free, just as their peers in urban areas do. One million farmers and herdsmen are set to benefit.
