The thesis makes an analysis of the life consciousness and feminine consciousness from a com- pletely new angle in the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, who attempted to understand women and seek for love and the value of women in society by struggle, rebellion, betrayal and sacrifice. Charlotte Bronte＇s unique way of sharp writing style and sagacious language is the outcry of her inner world, show- ing her desire to be equal to man in the patriarchal society and her progressive social consciousness. Char- lotte is remarkable in portraying Jane Eyre as a pure-hearted, reflecting, self-respecting and rebellious girl who is desiring equality, bravely showing her love and deciding on her own marriage. Jane Eyre challenged men＇s authority, and set a new role model for women of the Victorian Age. With a more mature female consciousness, Jane Eyre also reflects the awakening of social consciousness of women, which surpasses most of the female writings of the late 18th century which center on the female emotional world.
