“Image of China” in the Works of Contemporary Chinese American Writers——A Case Study of Maxine Hong Kingston’s The Woman Warrior

当代华裔美国作家在世界文坛声誉日隆。汤亭亭是代表作家之一。她的《女勇士》展示了生活在异域的华人双重身份的复杂性和面临的困境,也透露出华裔作家创作的共性特征:其创作既取材于中国传统文化又想象和改写了中国文化,使华裔美国作家笔下的"中国形象"变异为带有社会集体想象的"他者"。

The reputation of Chinese American writers has been steadily growing in the literary world. Maxine Hong Kingston is one of the representative writers. Her The Woman Warrior depicts the complexity and difficulty of the dual identity of Chinese living in foreign countries and it also re- veals the Chinese American writers＇ common characteristics： their creations are based on the Chi- nese traditional culture but also the imagination and rewriting of the Chinese culture, thus making ＂Image of China＂ in the works of Chinese American writers variant with the social collective imagi- nation of ＂the other＂.
