Xiangxiang dialectical proverbs are short and concise, meaningful and profound, vivid and popu- lar, and easy to memorize and inherit. It not only reflects the characteristics of Xiangxiang dialect, but also records the Xiangxiang unique productive and living mode, the natural environment and the folk culture. It is the crystallization of people＇s life experience and wisdom, which holds Xiangxiang＇ s unique local culture. This paper elucidates the Xiangxiang dialectical proverbs and emphasizes its cognitive and linguistic functions from the per- spective of cognitive metaphor.
