Reproduction of Verbal Humor in Sitcoms: A Case Study of Good Luck Charlie

情景喜剧以幽默为目的,字幕翻译中的言语幽默是否能够逗笑译语观众直接影响到一部喜剧在别国的传播和接受。考察《查莉成长日记》字幕中言语幽默的再现,发现译文通过直译、意译加注等形式基本再现了源语通过对语言的玩味制造的幽默。对于文化专属类幽默,译者凭借对译语观众文化语境的判断,以灵活的方式再现了此类幽默。但该剧也存在字幕格式不规范、注释过长等问题。

Sitcoms aim to make the audience laugh. Thus whether the original verbal humor is successfully reproduced directly affects the transmission and acceptance of a sitcom in other countries. An exploration of the reproduction of verbal humor in subtitles of Good Luck Charlie shows that such strategies as literal translation and liberal translation with notes help reproduce the original verbal humor created by manipulation of language. It is also found that culture-loaded humor is mostly successfully reproduced with flexible methods, but such problems as irregular format of subtitles and lengthy notes call for further attention.
