A Review of Lao Cun's Novel Sao Tu and Others

老村的长篇小说《骚土》(初版本)传承了中国古典文学的叙事手法和语言艺术,在某种程度上取得了一些成绩。但是,小说在人物形象塑造方面,对人物进行了漫画式的描写,没有深入到小说人物的内心,忽视了揭示人物的性格、命运的深层原因,未能塑造出丰满的人物形象;在叙写故事的时候,忽略了对于社会历史现象进行深沉的反思,思想较为贫弱,导致小说世界堕入到一片黑暗之中,缺少人性之光的发现。这是由于作者和小说叙事者没有分开,没有与表现的内容和对象保持足够的距离造成的。

Lao Cun＇s novel Sao Tu has somewhat been successful in that it has inherited the narrative mode and linguistic art of classical Chinese literature.However,in terms of characterization,the novel has portrayed characters in a comic-like manner without delving into their inner heart and ignored the revelation of underlying reasons for the personality and the destiny of characters,thus having failed to produce well-wrought characters.Moreover,as regards the story narration,the novel is of poor ideological contents due to its neglect of profound reflections on the social and historical phenomena,thereby having plunged the novel into darkness and devoid of humanity splendor.All these result from the mingle between the author and the narrator in the novel as well as from the failure to keep enough space between the depicted content and objects.
