Li Shi-cen and Comparison of Chinese and Western Phiilosophy

李石岑对中西哲学发展过程及其思想同异的考察与理解,在20世纪30年代的哲学比较研究中,当为最具理论价值的认识成果之一。李石岑对于西方的学术文化曾经有过长时间的研探与亲身体验,其对西方哲学了解的深度与广度,在与其同时代的学者中,少有人能够与之比肩。就思想倾向而言,李石岑早年虽曾热衷于尼采哲学与柏格森哲学,对詹姆斯的实用主义也赞赏有加,但是,当他对中西哲学进行比较研究的时候,思想上已经转向辩证唯物论。哲学观念的转向,增加了李石岑对中西哲学异同理解的思想深度,也促使他将哲学比较的学术目标指向了中国哲学自身建设。这些都值得我们肯定。今天,我们思考文化比较与哲学比较,不论时代条件还是学术目标,与李石岑一类学者当年的理解都已经大不相同。但是,回顾李石岑当年的中西哲学比较研究,总结其哲学比较的认识成果,不论是对我们拓展哲学比较的观念,还是完善哲学比较的思想方法,都有其正面的学术价值。

In the philosophical comparative study of the 1930g, Li Shi-cen＇s study on Chinese and western philosophical develop- ment process is the most valuable achievement. Li Shi-cen had a long time of research exploration experience in western academic culture, especially the understanding of the depth and breadth in the western philosophy, so he was equaled by the few. As for his thought tendency, he was keen on Nietzsche philosophy and Bergson philosophy, and he had admired James＇s pragmatism. However, when he carried out a comparative study on the Chinese and western philosophy, his ideology has turned to dialectical materialism. The change of philosophy increased his understanding of the similarities and differences of Chinese and western phi- losophy, and promoted him to put the comparative philosophy academic goals to the construction of Chinese philosophy itself. These are worthy of our affirmation. Today, when we think of cultural comparison and philosophical comparison, the age condi- tion and the academic goals are quite different from those of Li Shicen and the scholars of the time. But to review Li Shi-cen＇s comparative study on Chinese and western philosophy and to sum up his results in philosophical comparative understanding have positive academic value both in expanding the concept of comparative philosophy and in perfecting comparative philosophical thought method.
