慢性肾脏病是一组进行性发展的高发病率、高致残率、高消费率、高死亡率的疾病群,其病情反复,给患者及其家庭带来了巨大的精神和经济负担。早在《黄帝内经》中就已对肾及肾的功能详细论述。中医对"肾"的理解包括了现代医学的生殖系统、内分泌系统、神经系统的功能。现代医学认为肾脏主要排泄功能,直至本世纪才认识到肾脏还具有内分泌功能。西医界近年来对肾脏内分泌物质的发现,使人们对古人所讲的"肾功能"与现代医学所说的"肾脏内分泌功能"的关系有了进一步的认识。

Chronic Kidney Disease （CKD） is a group of illness, manifested as progressive development of high incidence, high disability rate, high rate of consumption and high mortality. Due to the repeated incidence, it brought great economic and mental burden to patients and their families, and even the country. However, the serious harm to human society by CKD is not yet caused sufficient understanding among society, government and the public, and lack of awareness. It already had the elaborate records of the kidney and renal function as early as in the ＂Neijing＂. the connotation of ＂kidney＂ in TCM including the function of reproductive system, endocrine system, as well as nervous system in modern medicine. Western medicine researchers had always considered that the main function of the kidney was excretory function, until this century they realized the endocrine function of kidney. On account of the cognition of kidney endocrine substance in Western Medicine recently, the profound understanding on the relationship between kidney function in TCM and kidney endocrine function in western medicine has been reached.
