The 20th century is ＂a century of collapse of the empire＂, domestic and foreign scholars paid more attention to the empire studies. Based on the perspective of empire, this article will analyze the type of the empire and study the formation process of the Russian Empire and its characteristics. The main conclusion is that the Russian Empire is a powerful centralized non-colonial empire, combined with the characteristics of the Oriental dictatorial system and European despotism in the process of its social developemtn. It is a model of national unity.
