This paper analyzed the mathematical statistics attribute of the coal vitrinite reflectance in- dex and existing vitrinite deviations for judging coal rank and disadvantage of coal kinds, showing the advantages and disadvantages of various determination methods and expression index, with description of impact on the determination result by identifying vitrinite. The system errors among different deter- mination methods not affecting the application of reflectance distribution has also been demonstrated.
