objective To investigate the protective effects of transparent film over the nasal bridge on the ulcer formation of nose bridge in patients undergoing noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Methods 72 cases of patients undergoing NIV, aged 58-79, without significant differences in their clinical situations, and 53.4% of which suffered from shortage of nutritional support, were randomly divided into 2 equal groups: control group (with the mask direct contacting the skin) and experimental group (with Comfeel Transparent Dressing affixed on the nose bridge). Every 30 min, the nose bridge was observed for 30 s to evaluate the formation of ulcer. Results Eleven of the patients in the experiment group suffered from pressure ulcer of bridge of nose, a number significant less than that of the control group (34, P=0.00). The time of occurrence of pressure ulcer in the experiment group was 58.62 h, significantly longer than that of the control group (18.13 h, P = 0.00). Conclusion transparent film over the nasal bridge effectively prevents the formation of nose bridge pressure ulcer in the patients undergoing NIV.
