As revealed in the ancient bamboo slip relics from Chu State at the Middle and late Warring States period, the internal social relations of the residents living in grass-root communities of Chu, name- ly, Yi, Li, and Zhou, no longer rely on blood ties. Each community is composed of core families and back- bone families, and the families are not necessarily bonded by blood ties. Therefore mixed living is a norm of these ancient communities, same with other states.
