从“王宝钏”到“王宝川”——熊式一自译作品《王宝川》探析

On Self-translation of Lady Precious Stream by S.I.Hsiung

为了能够延续作品的艺术生命,熊式一将英国话剧"Lady Precious Stream"改编为中文话剧《王宝川》,这也是他热爱艺术事业的表现。这一自译行为所采取的翻译策略包括增译、减译、改译和增、减、改综合等,使《王宝川》舞台演出获得成功。

S. I. Hsiung is a forerunner of cultural exchange between China and the West in the 20Th century. In the 1930s in the U. K. ,he translated a traditional Chinese play The Eight Acts about the Wang Family into an English drama Lady Precious Stream,which was then staged in theatre. After returned to motherland, S. I. Hsiung self - translated this famous work into Chinese. This paper tries to analyze the reason for the transformation of Wang Baochuan into Lady Precious Stream and the translation strategies adopted in the self - translated work.
