明清时期淮安地区黄河水患的严重危害以及繁忙的漕运和频繁的河工是导致淮安地区水神信仰盛行的主要原因。崇祀水神在成为国家治理黄河运河水患的重要手段的同时,也成为黄河运河沿岸民众的精神慰藉。水神信仰的盛行也使得明清时期淮安地区的民间信仰呈现出多元化的发展趋势。

The prevalent worship for Water God was due to the serious Yellow River floods and busy shipping in the Huaian area in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ritual of worship became an important means of controlling the flood of Yellow River and the spiritual solace of the people along the Yellow River The prevalent worship of Water God also showed a developing trend of diversification in people＇s beliefs.
