On Tang Yin and the Poetic Tradition of the Tang and Song Period

唐寅诗歌中有不少佳作真切地表达了他的人生体验、生活感受和高逸情怀,且以传统面貌出现,极好地继承了唐宋优秀诗歌的风神情韵,又不像前后七子一样停留于形貌的模仿。这类作品足以使他跻身于明诗名家之列。他有些抒怀寄意之作却过于浅俗、世俗乃至俚俗,为他的诗名带来了负面的影响。

Some poems by Tang Yin expressed his feeling and emotion, foresight and sagacity, and they are very traditional. In this regard, he inherited the poetic tradition of the Tang and Song periods. However he never model himself on High Tang like the former and later Seven Masters. Meanwhile, he wrote many poems so seeular, so shallow and even vulgar. This exerts a negative influence on his reputation as a poet.
