On October 18, 2012 the construction of an 1.8 Mt/a methanol-to-olefins unit at the Zhejiang Xingxing New Energy Technology Company, Ltd., which employs the Dalian methanol-to-olefins (DMTO) technology licensed by the CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, has been kicked off at the Jaixing Harbor Area. It is told that this company plans to construct two DMTO units with a capacity of 1.8 Mt/a apiece, in which the investment will total 6.0 billion RMB. The phase I project, in which theinvestment amounts to 3.2 billion RMB, will be precom- missioned by the end of 2014. It is said that during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" pe- riod the capacity of olefins production with licensed DMTO technology will reach 12--15 Mt/a to account for 30-50 percent of China's total olefins production. It is projected that within 15 years from now on the coal-based olefins projects will become the hot spots of capital investment.
