The wilderness is one of the major themes of eco-literature. The romantic description of wilder- ness by those environmentalists has become the classic image of wilderness to the public. Into the Wild tells a story of a tragedy in which, the young man Chris McCandless explores the wilderness in order to identify himself as a man and finally died in the wild nature. It reflects modern people's crisis of cultural identification and the desire for wilderness during the transition from modern to postmodern society, revea: ling the dualism between culture and the wilderness and discussing the possibility to transcend human value and go towards the wilderness ethics.
