张潮系清初徽州著名的藏书家、学者,在清代享有盛誉,影响颇大,学界对其颇为关注。刘和文所著《张潮研究》为研究张潮的力作,全书从生平与思想,交游与著术,《虞初新志》研究,《幽梦影》研究,诗作、诗学理论与曲学理论辑考,文献学贡献与影响等方面对张潮进行了系统研究,援引精当,考订翔实;视角多元,独辟蹊径;由点及面,填补了张潮研究的空白。

Zhang Chao was a famous collector and scholar of the Qing Dynasty in Huizhou, who was enjoying sterling reputation and had great influence on the academic circles. Researches on Zhang Chao by Liu He-wen was regarded as a masterpiece for the research on Zhang Chao. The book made a systematical researches on Zhang Chao from his life history and thought, his circle of friends and works, from the researches on New Records of Yu Chu （yu chu xin zhi） and Records of Shadows in the Dream （ you meng ying）, his poems and poetry theory, his rules for plays, his contributions to the documentation and his influence on the academic circles. The characteristics can be summarized as citing the words of others precisely and appropriately, examining and correcting fully and accurately, adopting pluralism in angle of view, blazing a new trail by himself, starting from specific to general, filling in the gaps in researching on Zhao Chao.
