Epistemological and Methodological Significance of the Formalists' Ideas on Literariness for Literary Translation

俄国形式主义的"文学性观"认为文学形式是文学赖以存在的根本,具有特殊的美学价值。这一观点如应用于文学翻译则有特殊的认识论与方法论意义,它可以帮助我们对"重意轻形"的翻译传统进行重新审视,本着翻译的"差异性伦理"忠实地传达原文的形式与意旨,同时在翻译实践中对原文的形式予以足够的关注,不轻易牺牲原文的形式,做到文学翻译的形神兼具、形神俱佳。

Form, which is more important than content according to the Russian formalists, is the very thing that tells literature from other types of writings. Such a idea is of special epistemological and meth- odological significane for literary translation. It can help us to rethink the traditional outweighing of con- tent over form in translation practice, abide by the translation ethic of difference, give due attention to the form in the original text and reproduce it faithfully in the target text.
