摘要
Tea Party既可以译成"茶会"或者"茶会运动",也可以译成个别茶党或者相关的税改党。在翻译过程中不能只看政治运动的表面,应借助归化和异化的翻译思想,结合实际的历史和社会文化背景,找到既比较符合美国社会文化事实,也能够为中国读者所接受的恰当译文。
Since early 2009, Tea Party, the grassroots movement, has roughly swept across the American political arena, and delivered a stinging blow to the Democratic federal government and its Congress in this' year's mid-term election. This has shaken the American public, and has fed the Chinese media with thousands of related reports, which can now be im- mediately retrieved from Baidu News. ~(et, the translation of Tea Party and that of its historical origin Boston Tea Party have been problematic. A careful examination of their historical and contemporary truth reveals that tea party cannot be ab- solutely translated as" 茶会", nor can it be hastily translated as"茶党". Translating tea party has to be conscious of con- textual clues, and has to be the necessary result of a negotiation between English and Chinese, keeping balance between foreignization and domestication.
