Objective To observe the clinical effect of vacuum - assisted aspiration (VAA) technique in diabetic patients associated with pressure sores. Methods The clinical data of 28 diabetic patients associated with pressure sores were included into this study. All these patients underwent VAC after thorough debridement from January 2011 to February 2013. Results The injured area of all patients after (4.8 ± 1.6) days drainage was reduced. The fresh granulation tissue grow in the surface of the wound. Twenty five patients healed. The recovery rate is about 89. 3%. The pressure sores improve markedly in 3 patients, who underwent the partial skin graft treatment. The improvement rate is about 10.7%. The VAC installment was replaced after average (4.5 ± 0.8 ) days. The average VAC treatment time is ( 14.5 ± 5.2 ) days in all patients. Con- clusion Vacuum - assisted aspiration can reduce the wound area, speed up the granulation tissue growth, accelerate pressure sores healing. It is an effective and simple to treatment in diabetic patients associated with pressure sores. However, the key of success VAA is to maintain the effective negative pressure attraction.
