Bellerophoniad is the masterpiece of John Barth, which re-tell the ancient myths. John Barth used the narrative mode of metafiction, deconstmcted the character identity to form a kind of tension between self-reference and self-relevance. This novel connected ancient world and modem world, mythological world and the real world, heroes and ordinary people. Therefore, it gets into the profound reflection of historical writing and modem crisis. John Barth also doubted that the hero mode could transcend both mythical imagination and reality.
