Study on the Factors That Influence the Construction and Interpretation of Metaphors: Taking Chinese as an Example

隐喻不仅是一种修辞手段,更是一种认知方式,是两个范畴之间的相似体验。隐喻的构建、识别和阐释受文化模式、认知方式及水平、认知个体差异等多重因素的制约。作为交际手段,隐喻也与语境密切相关。

Metaphor is not only a rhetoric method, but also a cognitive style. It is a reflection from the source domain to the target domain based on some similarities. Many factors influence the construction and interpretation of metaphors, such as cultural patterns, cognitive style or level, cognitive differences among individuals and so on. Besides, metaphor is also a communicative method and its interpretation is closely associated with context.
