ON THE LIMITS AND CONFINES OF CULTURAL "SOFT POWER"

文化"软实力"在当今经济社会的发展中无疑发挥着日趋重要的影响力。文化"软实力"的彰显,必须以经济、军事等硬实力的存在为基础和前提,以文化自身的彻底性、先进性与文化受众的文化需求和审美心理的切合为条件。任何过分夸大文化"软实力"作用的做法,都不可避免地会陷入文化决定论的泥潭。

Cultural ＂soft power＂ undoubtedly plays an increasingly important role in today＇ s economic and so- cial development. But the manifestation of its role must be based on the existence of such hard economic, mili- tary power which is also a prerequisite; the thoroughness and progressiveness of culture satisfy the audience＇ s cultural needs and aesthetic psychology. Any practices exaggerating the role of cultural ＂soft power＂ are inevi- tably caught in the quagmire of Cultural Determinism.
