On Liu Shipei’s Thoughts on Literature Styles

刘师培以追本溯源的研究方法,明确各种文体的发展演变及风格特征,目的在于把握不同文体的写作规律。在刘师培的文体研究体系中,存在着鲜明的文体等级观,主要体现在他对骈文、戏曲和小说等文体的不同态度方面。刘师培将骈文视为正宗文体,同时对戏曲起源进行了学理性研究,对小说文体进行了否定性关注,充分彰显语言形式对于文体风格的重要意义,客观上展示了中国文体研究的近代转型历程。

By tracing to the source, Liu Shipei has made clear the evolution and characteristics of each literature styles, so as to grasp the creational rules for various literature styles. In Liu＇s research system, there are obvious stylistic ranks, which are presented in his different attitudes towards different literature styles such as parallel prose, drama, novel, and so on. While regarding parallel prose as the authentic style, Liu also conducted academic research on the source of drama, and he paid negative attention to novel, which completely showed the language forms＇ significance to literature styles, and displayed transition of research on Chinese literature styles in modern times.
