The Culture Harmonic Trend and Schools Before and After May Fourth Movement

五四运动前后,中国是继续保留几千年来的传统文化,还是选择朝气蓬勃的近代西方文化,面临着文化的选择。面对如此现状,国粹派、学衡派、东方文化派及新儒家提出了文化调和的主张,他们客观地审视中西文化的优劣,期望通过两种文化的优势互补来发展中国的新文化。这对如今中国的社会主义文化建设有着积极的借鉴意义。

Before and after the May 4th movement, China was faced with the choice of culture： to continue to keep the traditional culture of China for thousands of years or to choose modern western culture full of vigor and vitality. A group of people claimed ＂The Culture Harmonic＂. They objectively examined advantages and disad- vantages of the Chinese and western culture and expected to develop the traditional Chinese culture, which is constructive to today＇s Chinese socialist cultural construction.
