A Study on the Chinese-English Translation of Public Signs as Language Landscape from the Perspective of Optimal Relevance

公示语是常见于公共场所为公众提供信息服务的一种特殊文体,也被称作是城市的一种语言景观。随着全球化的发展,国际交往日益密切,作为语言景观的公示语基本上以双语的形式出现,其规范性、准确性和交际性非常重要。本文旨在探讨作为语言景观的公示语的翻译中存在的问题,并从关联原则出发提出几点翻译原则和建议。

Public signs can be seen in every public place. It aims to provide information to the public in a special style, and also known as language landscape of a city. With the development of globalization, the increasingly close international contacts the public signs are in bilingual forms. Therefore, its normative, accuracy, and communication is very important. This thesis aims to explore the existing problems in Chinese-English translation of public signs as language landscape, and to offer some translation principles and recommendations from the perspective of optimal relevance.
