On Linda Jaivin's Subtitle Translation of Herofrom the Perspective of Translation as Adaptation and Selection

运用翻译适应选择论,以译者的适应与选择为视角,分析贾佩林英译《英雄》,旨在说明21世纪初,贾佩林英译《英雄》适应了当时中国电影打入国际市场,国外观众对中国电影充满好奇及表达自身对中国文化的热爱的内外需要。同时,对《英雄》进行翻译也是其对自身颇有造诣的双语能力以及中国影视文学在国外处于边缘地位这一翻译生态环境适应的结果。在翻译过程中,贾佩林充分照顾目标语观众的思维方式和表达习惯,采取归化和缩减等翻译手段成功实现了"三维"转换。

Employing Hu Gengshen's approach to translation as adaptation and selection,Linda Jaivin's subtitle translation of Hero is illustrated from the perspective of her adaptation and selection.It is shown that her translation of Hero in the beginning of the 21st century is her adaptation to the need of Chinese films marching into the international market,westerners' curiosity about Chinese films and Linda Jaivin's own internal need of expressing her enthusiasm for Chinese culture.Her translation of Hero is also a result of the adaptation to her masterful use of Chinese and English and the translational eco-environment of Chinese movie literature being at the peripheral position in western countries.During the translation process,Linda Jaivin pays attention to the habit of expression and way of thinking of the target audience and adopts the domestication method and reductive form of translation.All of these helps her transform adaptively from the three dimensions.
