Comparison between Ji Junxiang’s The Orphan of Zhao and Voltaire’s The Orphan of China

元杂剧《赵氏孤儿》是中国的一部悲剧剧作,比较集中反映了中国悲剧文化精神。十八世纪此剧传入法国,后经由伏尔泰改编为剧本《中国孤儿》,与纪君祥的《赵氏孤儿》相比有相似点,也有诸多的不同之处。此二者可以从情节、人物角色以及作品思想三个方面作一比较分析。

Ji Junxiang’s The Orphan of Zhao,a work of Yuan-Zaju,is a work of tragedy of China,which centers on the cultural spirit of Chinese tragedies.In the 18th century,it was brought into French.Then,Voltaire rearranged it into a new play named The Orphan of China.These two plays have both similarities and stark differences.We can compare them from three aspects,including their plots,characters and thought.
