This article reports the discovery of fault in the main transformer of an SS9G electric locomotive. The diagnosis of the transformer fault based on abnormal chromatography results of the transformer oil is described. By combining with electric test,the fault could be categorized and precisely located. After analyzing the causes of the fault,measures are proposed to avoid similar problems.
