A Comparative Study of Metaphorical Images of Twelve Symbolic Animals Between Chinese and English

隐喻不仅是一种语言形式,更是一种思维方式。人们自觉不自觉地将动物身上的特征与自己的属性嫁接叠加,与动物合二为一,通过隐喻的路径创造出一系列相关的语汇。通过对十二肖语簇在汉英语言中隐喻意象的对比,从体验哲学和文化分野的双重视角阐释了人们识解同一动物时的共性和异性。

Metaphor is not merely a form of language, but also a way of thinking. Human beings, consciously or unconsciously, connect some qualities of animals with human characteristics, combine animals with themselves, and create a series of related expressions in terms of metaphor. By comparing meta- phorical images of twelve symbolic animals between Chinese and English, this article aims to explain cognitive commonness and discrepancies in the understand- ing of the same animal from the perspectives of embodied philosophy and cultural divergences.
