Objective To provide an overview of current research on Acritochaeta Grimshaw, 1901 in China. Methods The Acritochaeta samples were collected and identified, and literature review and analysis were performed. Results Seven species of the genus Acritochaeta, including the new species ofAcritochaeta qingchuanica Qian, Xie et Feng, sp. nov., are recorded in China. Of these species, 3 have the type localities in China, and all of them are endemic species in China. This paper gives a brief introduction of the identification features and ecological habits of the genus. A key and a checklist of all the known species of Acritochaeta in China are also given in this paper. Conclusion The number of species of the genus Acritochaeta is relatively small. However, as China has a vast territory and abundant natural resources, the related study should be carried on. The type specimens of new species are preserved in the Insect Museum of Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai (200032), China.Acritochaeta qingchuanica Qian, Xie et Feng, sp. nov. (Figure 1) Male: Body length 4.0-5.0 mm. This new species is similar to A. ateripraepeda (He, Huang et Feng, 2007), but differs from the latter in the following aspects: (l) each of the two sides of the sub-posterior edges of cerci has an auricula in posterior view, but there are two auriculae for the latter; (2) the apical parts of both surstyli are in embrace form in posterior view, but it is not the case for the latter; (3) most of the 3rd tergite is yellow, but it is completely black for the latter. Female: Body length 3.0-4.0 ram. The scutum stripes are more distinct than those of males; nearly all the 3rd and 4th tergites on the abdomen are bright-black in dorsal view; the middle parts of the posterior edges of the 1st and 2nd tergites have a pair of small spots (absent in some specimens); the posterior edge of the 5th tergite is acute-angle-shaped, with 2 semicircular black spots at the vertice; the ventral edge of the 3rd tergite does not expand; the 7th tergite of ovipositor is divided into a front pair of flakes and a black pair of flakes, and the sternite is divided into a front flake and a back flake; there are 3 oval spermathecae. This new species is similar to A. ateripraepeda (He, Huang et Feng, 2007), but differs from the latter in the following aspect: the spermatheca is oval, but the spermatheca of the latter is spherical. Holotype ♂ Qingchuan County (Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve, 2000 m), Sichuan province, China, 2011-08-04, collected by QIAN Wei-ping using a cage; paratypes 3 ♂♂ 3, 67 ♀♀, with the same collector, collection time, and collection site as the holotype. The type specimens of new species are preserved in the Insect Museum of Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai (200032), China. Etymology The name of new species is derived from Chinese phonetic alphabet "qingchuan" and Latin word "ica", indicating that the type locality of the new species is Oingchuan county, Sichuan province.
