Minority Librarians and Multicultural Services at Academic Libraries in America

国内学界对图书馆多元文化服务的研究大多局限于对先进国家成功经验的介绍和国内服务现状及措施的探讨,忽略了非常重要的视角,即这些服务提供者——少数民族馆员。鉴于移民大国美国与我国多民族状态的相似性,论文介绍美国高校图书馆招募和挽留少数民族馆员的策略,及其为少数族裔学生提供的多元文化服务,最后探讨我国高校图书馆尤其是西部民族地区高校图书馆的少数民族馆员及多元文化服务的现状。

The existing researches in multicuhural services in China mainly focus on displaying the successful experience of advanced countries and exploring the status of multicultural services at domestic libraries, while ignoring the important perspective - minority librarians who provide these services and play a critic role. In view of the multi-ethnic character in both China and America, this paper describes in detail the strategies of recruitment and retention of minority librarians and the muhicultural services at academic libraries in America. At last, it attempts to explore the situation of the minority librarians and multicultural services at academic libraries in China, especially in west China.
