Metaphor rhetorical criticism is a kind of criticism that attempts to reveal how a rhetor uses metaphor to induce his au- dience＇ s co-operation or to persuade his audience. This paper, taking as its interpretive framework the current mainstream view of rhetoric as symbolic inducement of cooperation, explores its theoretical basis and philosophical assumptions, and sketches a basic method for its operation.
