In Molloy, S. Beckett takes the vague mirror as a motif and mirroring as the structural principle of narration. Thus the novel is divided into two mutually reflecting sections, and the mirror relation between Molloy and Moran and that between A and C are closely associated, illustrating a complex mode of reflection. The symmetrical knife-rest is the image of the mode of reflection, and works like a fort-da game. In essence, "mirror writing" is the writing dealing with the problem subject' s dilemma of identification during the mirror stage.
