According to ＂making great efforts to promote ecological progress＂ delivered in Hu Jintao＇s report in the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China （CPC）, the paper explores the origin and the thought of ecological progress ethics in the context of Chinese ancient culture, to pro- vide a powerful theoretical foundation to better carry out the education of ecological ethics, protect ecological environment, and promote ecological progress. As the earliest cultural phenomena of mankind, the totemism and mythology are rich in the wisdom of ecological ethics of Chinese characteristics, from which the thought of ecological ethics stems.
